We all want to look gorgeous on our wedding day! Perfect hair, gorgeous makeup, awesome bling, stunning gown and handsome new husband.
But to give good face, you must start working months in advance. Great skin is not something that happens overnight and your makeup artist will love you forever for giving her a wonderful palate to create a lovely portrait!
I have good skin and so do my parents and my sister. We are lucky. My Mother imparted these skin tips to me as a pre-teen and I do follow most of them. People ask me what I use and I love Rodan+Fields Anti-Age Skin Regimen.
1) Drink lots of water. You have heard it a million times. It is a truly boring tip but it has an amazing outcome. Your insides and the skin all over your body will thank you!
2) Don’t drink too much caffeine. Love your coffee, great – have a cup or two, just not the whole pot. I must have one diet cola in the morning.
3) Don’t drink too much alcohol. This should read: Don’t drink. But that is just not realistic.
4) Don’t smoke. Period. Not negotiable. It is a disgusting habit and does more bad stuff to your body than any of these other things combined.
5) Take off your makeup every evening. Getting in the shower in the morning and rubbing off what is leftover on your face does not allow your skin to breathe and absorb the moisturizer.
6) Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. My Mother says it does not really matter what you use but do it twice a day. And remember your neck.
7) Use an eye cream. Yes, you need to start using an eye cream in your 20′s. Those are the first lines you will see on your face. Check out my favorite eye cream.
8) Use a moisturizer with sun screen protection. Yes, even on a cloudy day, you can get a sun burn.
9) Just like you schedule regular pedicures to make your toes pretty, schedule regular facials. Go monthly and give yourself an hour to have a “skin doctor” tune up your face and relax.
10) Sleep. Try for that perfect eight hour a night magic.
BONUS TIP: Always – let me say it again - ALWAYS wear fake eyelashes for special occasions. They do AMAZING things for your eyes!
In theory, your makeup artist should be able to cover all your blemishes and make your face look flawless on your wedding day. In reality, love your skin and it will love you back!

You look stunning! And you skin looks like porcelain. Being blessed with good skin genes myself, I would second all of the above. Plus, regular use of skin freshening mask at home to reveal the new radiant skim under all the dead cells. Also, STAY AWAY FROM JUNK FOOD! You skin doesn’t love it.
Thanks Gourmet Rambler!

Haha! Yes, that DOES help! Wait, I wouldn’t know… ;)
As someone who has applied make-up to dozens of faces, I cannot agree with this list more. Skin care is essential to a beautiful face. It’s not all about symmetry and the paint we later apply, it is also about shining through with the best “you” that you can be! And that starts with great skin. Skimping on facial care in your 20s will only hurt you later down the road when your face looks ravaged and leatherlike in your 30s and 40s. Skin needs a chance to regenerate and heal. Wearing make-up every single day isn’t good for your skin, and removing it is very important. Also, use a gentle remover that completely takes the make-up off, not just mostly takes it off. Clinique’s Take the Day off is a wonderful make-up remover. The oils that are in it won’t clog your pores, especially if (and you should be doing this anyway) you immediately wash your face after removing your make-up.
Anyway, from a cosmetics and skin care junkie, thanks for posting this. What a great list and wonderful post! I wish more brides followed this advice for months before their wedding (and after) like they do with their physical work-out routines!
Hi KM ~
We SOOOO agree with you! Brides expect to makeup artists to do magic for their wedding day look! Makeup is great but fabulous skin is even better!!! And most of these tips will help all your skin be better… and there is nothing more sexy than great skin!
As a woman, I think we begin to see aging in our faces at around our 30th birthday. That is when wrinkles around the eyes and laugh lines around the lips become apparent. And it is much more evident on those that smoke, drink, don’t take off their makeup and don’t moisturize.
I am okay with aging gracefully but I don’t want to look one day older than I am! I am a religious wearer of sun screen – and I LOVED the sun as a teenager! Just to note… I was almost 40 years old in these photos! Thanks to Antonette White for great hair and makeup and Jai Girard for the awesome photos!!!
Cheers!
