TIP TUESDAY: Alphabetical Order for Escort Cards

Initially, you think of your guests in order of those closest to you.  Then, you alphabetize the list.  And finally, at the end of the wedding planning process, you think about your guests in the grouping of the tables you have assigned them to.  Right?  It makes sense until you have to set up the escort card table!

TIP TUESDAY: Color Me Neutral

There is a reason why I wear the same shade of nail polish from May through October.  “Sweet Nothings” by LOREAL is a very pretty sheer white with a very subtle pink hue.  And it does not rub off on wedding dresses.

TIP TUESDAY: Send Yourself A Wedding Invitation

Remember how excited you were when you started looking at wedding invitations?  And then picking out the perfect one?  Working on the proofs?  Getting the envelopes back from the calligrapher?  Having a “stuffing” party with your mother and bridesmaids?  Taking the wedding invitations to the post office?  And hearing from your invited guests how excited they are about receiving your wedding invitation?  Yes?!?!  Do yourself a favor and send yourself an invitation to your own wedding!

TIP TUESDAY: You MUST Break In Your Wedding Shoes!

We say it to our brides all the time, “You MUST break in your wedding shoes!”  And guess what?  We would say maybe one out of ten brides really do break in their shoes so they can wear them all day and not be in pain within the first hour!

TIP TUESDAY: Don’t Be Afraid to Ask

You would not believe the number of phone calls and emails from clients that start with the words, “I am so sorry to bother you with this” or “I know this is a really dumb question, but…”

TIP TUESDAY: The “C” Word ~ Commission

Today, I am going to talk about the “C” word.  Commission.  It’s a dirty word and one that is whispered often in this industry but rarely spoken about in public.  Especially to clients.

TIP TUESDAY: Treat Your Momma Right!

This Sunday may be Mother’s Day, but undoubtedly, the day the MOB is most excited about is her daughter’s wedding.  Mother/Daughter relationships can range anywhere from delightful to torturous – and everything in between.  Add a wedding into the mix, and well, it’s not always pretty.  (Actually, one of the largest roles we play as Chicago wedding planners is mediator between the bride and her mother.)  While this is your wedding, keep in mind that she has also been dreaming about this day since the day you were born.  She wants the best for you – it just may not seem that way sometimes.

Royal Wedding: Planner’s Perspective

There was so much pressure on the wedding industry last year with the news of the Royal Wedding.  Since the moment Kate and William announced their engagement in November, she wearing his late mother’s stunning sapphire ring, the media was abuzz with predictions, speculation and anticipation.  Everyone in the wedding industry was weighing in on an almost daily basis on anything they could possibly think of to relate to the “Wedding of the Century.”  As a member of this group of wedding “experts,” I felt that I HAD to talk about the wedding constantly, lest my standing in the industry would somehow falter.

TIP TUESDAY: Adult Only Wedding!

I recently had a bride email me the following:  “So we are going to have some kids at our wedding after all.  I made it clear to people that it was going to be an adults only wedding, but people decided to invite their kids anyway.  It’s been a bit of eye-opening experience, especially because one person confronted me head-on about the babies thing (‘We can’t bring our kids?  What is up that?  What am I supposed to do?’).  I was so shocked that I basically caved right then and there.”

TIP TUESDAY: What’s for dinner?

Chicken or beef?  Beef or fish?  Chicken or fish?  How many vegetarians?

These are the things your caterer will need to know when you give them your final count about a week before your wedding.  So, how do you figure this out?
