TIP TUESDAY: Great Skin Is In ~ Part II

Editor-in-Chief Claudia Antony Zompa shared an IN THEORY THURSDAY:  Makeup Helps but Great Skin Is In a couple of weeks ago.

Beauty Editor Stacey Roney of Beauty on Call says:  ”Any top artist will tell you, makeup only looks as good as the skin underneath it so it’s best to get started on a great skincare regimen six months in advance.  What I love about Rodan+Fields is they have over the counter medicines to address major skincare concerns including sun damage (hyper pigmentation, brown spots, dullness), lines and wrinkles, sensitivity and acne.  These products actually do what they say they are going to do.  I have seen dramatic results within 60 days from brides and mother of the brides that started using the products after the trial run.  If you truly want glowing skin for your big day, these are the products to use!”

Rodan+Fields Anti-Age

Think about the expense of having facials, microdermabrasion, IPL laser for sun damage and the time to do all that for months leading up to your wedding!  Instead, why not check out Rodan+Fields ~ Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields are the dermatologists behind Proactiv and now is they have four skin care regimens for adults:  Anti-Age (wrinkles, pores, loss of firmness), Reverse (brown spots, dullness, sun damage), Soothe (sensitive, irritated skin, facial redness) and Unblemish (acne, post-acne marks).

TIP TUESDAY: Bridal Emergency Kit

I’ve been known to plan for the worst case scenario and it goes without saying that every bride (or even better, her maid of honor on her behalf) should do the same to avoid any unnecessary stress on the wedding day.  Looking your best begins at the ceremony but lasts throughout the reception so carry with you a back up of all the necessities.

TIP TUESDAY: Bridal Emergency Kit

Bridal Emergency Kit by Mojuba

Here are a few that I always recommend you have in your handbag:
1) Blot papers to absorb any shine in photos- this goes for the groom too!
2) Eye rakeup remover to clean up makeup any mishaps caused by tears
3) Band aids for pesty blisters
4) Bobby pins
5) Stain remover pen
6) Eye drops
7) Breath mints
8) Advil
9) Hairspray
10) Mini deodorant

With so much on your To-Do list, Mojuba makes life easy by supplying everything you need in a cute bag!  As Creator Jackie James says “Murphy’s law still applies on the biggest day of your life…”  A mini version is available  for $38 and the full kit for $165.  Makes a great shower gift!

TIP TUESDAY: Long Lasting Lips

Unless you don’t plan to eat, drink or kiss on your wedding, chances are you are going to benefit from what I have to tell you.  We all strive to achieve not only the “perfect” lip, but one that lasts without non-stop touch-ups.

TIP TUESDAY: Long Lasting Lips

Perfect Lips (Photo from www.beauty-blogs.com)

Here are a few of my tips:

1)  Exfoliate your lips beforehand to remove any dry skin and reduce feathering.  Lips that are prepped and smooth will hold lipstick longer.   My favorite is Rodan + Field’s Lip Microdermabrasion for $16.00.

2)  Prep the lips by applying a concealer to the lips to even out the skin tone and to lightly fill in any fine dry lines.

3)  Select a lip liner shade that closely matches your natural lip color so that it doesn’t change the color of the lipstick.  Use the side of a lip pencil to not only line the lip but fill the entire lip in.  Your lipstick or gloss will adhere to the liner and will make them last longer and even when the lipstick eventually wears off, you still have color left behind.

4)  Apply one coat of lipstick and  they layer a piece of tissue over the top.  Gently brush some powder over the tissue and then re-apply another coat of lipstick to seal it in.

5)  Top with a lip sealant and your set!  Check out LipChic for $16.50.

TIP TUESDAY: Help for Hair

As Owner and Founder of Beauty on Call, my job consists of finding two things:
1) The best artists and stylists to represent Beauty on Call.
2) The best products that will provide a photo-ready look that lasts for our brides.

I struck gold when I met Rebekah Sattler last summer.  She relocated to Chicago from Manhattan where she worked alongside Celebrity Hairstylist Oscar Blandi.  Her personal clients included Mary Kate & Ashley Olson and Kelly Ripa to name a few and I was immediately smitten as I have been a fan of Kelly’s blond locks for some time.

When Rebekah arrived for her interview, I was optimistic but I’ve got difficult hair so it remained to be seen what she could do with my long, thick, curly - not to mention, frizzy hair.  Since many of our brides like to wear there hair down for the wedding day, I opted for a blow out with long loose curls.

It was as if she waved her magic hairbrush wand because within 20 minutes (a major miracle in and of itself) my hair was completely transformed.  What started out as an interview, quickly became a love fest with my newfound hair.

TIP TUESDAY: Help for Hair

She left me with a nugget of knowledge that has changed my life and that of many of Chicago’s savviest brides:  ”Extend the life of your blowout by refreshing with Oscar Blandi’s Pronto Invisible Dry Shampoo Spray”.  You simply  apply this lemon scented spray to the roots and it revives and rejuvenates by soaking up the oil.  No water necessary!  It is also ideal for a bride who’s stylist recommends they wash their hair the night before the wedding as the hair will look clean, smell fresh and it helps boost volume!

Abracadabra!

You can find Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray at Sephora for $23.

Beauty TIP TUESDAY: Want a healthy glow?

After 20+ years in the beauty industry, I am more often underwhelmed with new products than not but yesterday was a different story.  I attended The Makeup Show which featured many of the leading cosmetic artistry brands as well as a few little known gems and I left overwhelmed by one in particular.

Beauty TIP TUESDAY: Want a healthy glow?

RCK Body Glow www.redcarpetkolour.com

One of my top makeup artists who also attended the show introduced me to Joanna Schlip, Celebrity Artist, whose client list includes Denise Richards, Christina Applegate and Jessica Simpson.  Joanna is also the Founder of a RCK (Red Carpet Kolour).

Anytime someone tells me they have a product that will even out my skintone, conceal age spots, discoloration, spider veins and stretch marks, my ears instantly perk up.  As Joanna applied the body glow on my arms, I was surprised at how natural it looked and smelled.  My skin is very fair and she used the medium on me which gave me a slight tan.  She advised me that within five minutes it would be dry and would not rub off on clothing.  I’ve heard that before but I am pleased to report that this time it’s true!

Upon returning home, I hugged my son who was wearing a white shirt and it did not transfer.  This is a product is a must for brides who want that wedding day glow and just a hint of color.
