Things have been a bit busy in the Bespoken For studio lately! We are overflowing with orders and that means the inspiration is flowing too. So what will we be designing for 2012? Well vintage is still on trend! I think this one is here to stay for the year (at least) because as a bride you can really make the look your own, it is so pretty and what’s more it is a great tradition of something old. So our new collection is going to be filled with vintage inspirations and lots of diamante and pearl.

As much as I love the traditional tiaras, not everyone feels comfortable wearing them. But as a bride, this is your chance to really go to town and wear something you would not be able to wear any other day. And that is an opportunity you should not waste!!!

If you have a piece of vintage costume jewelry that you want to wear for your wedding but it is a little grubby, here are a few tips for bringing back the sparkle. However, always be careful, spot check before you clean the whole piece to make sure it doesn’t damage it.
Tools to use:
- Fine brushes – eye makeup ones, lip brushes or paint brushes work well – I use one of the angled body shop brushes!
- Toothpick or cocktail sticks
- Small amount of warm soapy water – dishwashing liquid works well
- Small amount of clean water
- Polishing cloth or lint free cloth
- Kitchen paper
This is how I clean vintage jewelry. Because most is plated, care must be taken not to remove the metal finish, so avoid rubbing the piece.
1) Dip the brush in the soapy water
2) Blot the excess water from the brush on the kitchen paper (this is to prevent it getting too wet, as water can damage some pieces)
3) Brush of the dirt one quick brush
4) Rinse the brush in the clean water
5) Repeat until all the piece has been cleaned gently
6) Use the lint free cloth to shine any stones and to dry it afterwards
7) Use the tooth picks to get into trick areas to remove dirt

When it comes to the glitz at your wedding, you can choose to buy cheaper costume jewelry should you wish. It will still sparkle, look nice and do the job. But costume jewelry is only suitable for occasional wear. It ages quicker, can lose its lustre and once that plated finish is gone, there is very little you can do about it.
If however you spend a bit more money on your bling then you are more likely to have a piece that is sterling silver or gold and is probably of heirloom quality so it will last a lot longer. You can wear it more as it won’t ruin as easily and you can pass it on to your children and their children.
In theory, costume jewelry will do the job. In reality, investing in your accessories will pay of in the long term.

Why does buying a jewelry set makes great sense for your wedding?
Bespoken For jewelry sets sell like hotcakes! Why? Because they match each other and can be worn together or apart.
The joy of investing in a jewelry set means you get your necklace, bracelet, earrings, etc. all to match perfectly. If you have pearls this is the best thing to do as pearls can change colour as they age or are worn and freshwater pearls are all different, so buying separately means they may not be a perfect match.
When you buy as a set you often save money too as it is more than likely to be cheaper than buying them all separately and this helps any budget Giving you a little bit extra to play with.
If you can’t see matching items ask, you never know and always enquire if there is a discount for buying the set together.

Last weekend, my Grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary ~ Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Now that’s quite a feat for any married couple! (I found getting to the first anniversary quite tough!)
They were delighted to get a card from The Queen too! So even she thinks it is quite something.
And that really made me think. What is the recipe for many years of wedded bliss? I think that there are a few elements but here are my observations on why they may have made it:
1) Listening – Both my Grandparents have hearing aids! Perhaps the lack of listening helps!
2) For Better, For worse – Grandad will always tell you the worst bits, perhaps getting it off his chest helps!
3) For Richer, For Poorer – Grandma manages the money! That must be the key!

I have never heard of the languages of love portrayed in such a way before so when faced with the challenge of having a go, I couldn’t resist. Allan, my husband, however wasn’t so keen, so I resorted to shouting the questions out at him, after a few his ears pricked up and he came round to the idea.
So we worked together through the questions and finally up came our answers. Spot on for me it showed how sometimes my insecurity means I like words of affirmation and physical touch where as Allan prefers physical touch and quality time.
The insight it gives isn’t in depth or thorough but it certainly helps you to understand and communicate love better to one another.
I will see how it goes.

If you are planning a visit to a bridal fair, here are my top tips:
1) Wear sensible shoes – you will do a lot of walking.
2) Bring your purse – you never know you may need it
3) Don’t bring a heavy bag full of stuff – you will get lots of freebies to carry, if you cannot be without all your essentials then be sure to bring your fiancé to carry the load or a good friend or family member to help you with all the decision making
4) Bring a notepad and a pencil to write down all you see
5) Bring an open mind – remember a wedding fair is a source of inspiration, information and a place for some interrogation! Make sure you ask all your key questions.
6) Get some sticky dots or stars to keep in your pocket, put a sticker on all the flyers of your favourite suppliers so you can sort them easily when you get home
7) If you don’t have stickers, designate one of your goody bags for those you like and put all the flyers in there
8) Enter all the competitions - They are real! So you really could win something special! What have you got to lose?

Now that the 2011 wedding season is winding down, Bespoken For is looking at what is going to be hot for our U.K. brides in 2012.
When it comes to predicting the trends, I look to this year’s best selling pieces.
1) Traditional tiaras are making a HUGE comeback following the bride style of Kate Middleton and Zara Phillips. Check out the gorgeous tiara featured in Bespoken For: Come Back of the Tiara.
2) Brides love vintage and boho touches. Still snapping up lots of diamante details like shoe clips or adding a Boho twist with a forehead piece.
3) By far the biggest accessory trend is for glamorous back dropping necklaces that trail down to give detail from the back. We have sold more necklaces this year with back detailing and adornment than anything else.
What do you think will be big hit in bridal accessories for the 2012 wedding season? Please let us know by leaving a comment.
