YAY!! Mommy dragged Daddy to the Crate & Barrel Registry party this weekend at Oak Brook Center. The store opened early and there were some light morning pastries and refreshments for everyone. There was a brief group session and Mommy and Daddy were sent on their way with a zappy thing. Daddy really enjoyed zapping everything while Mommy concentrated really hard on the things they should select.

Love Story: Time to Engage

I have heard many proposal stories working in the business I do. It is a talking point I go over with clients while I crunch numbers in front of them to keep them engaged. When I proposed to my now wife (she said yes!), I knew I was going to do something different.

Months prior at opening day for the Tigers in Detroit, Michigan, I was given a towel by the Detroit Free Press as a giveaway. The message they were trying to sell to new readers was that it was “time to engage”. I am sure they meant reading the paper and getting into current events but I saw a golden moment as the large text on the towel was time to engage. I kept the towel for seven months!

The practice of sealing the marriage contract with a ring is a time-honored tradition, dating back to ancient times. The predecessor to today’s engagement rings, however, wouldn’t have turned many heads: a simple iron hoop was de rigeur in early Roman times, followed by a plain gold band some centuries later. The significance of the ring was its symbolism, with its circular shape an abstract representation of eternity.

CONGRATS! Berry Engaged to Martinez

Actress Halle Berry is engaged to actor Olivier Martinez according to MSNBC.

A rep for jewelry designer Gurhan confirmed that Olivier gave Halle a diamond-and-emerald engagement ring.

The only curious thing is that Halle publically stated on an episode of Oprah in 2004, “I will never marry again. I mean it with every bone in my body.”

We wish them a lifetime of happiness!

Editor’s Note: As of January 12, 2012, TMZ is reporting that the ring given by Olivier Martinez to Hally Berry was not an engagement ring.
