COUNTDOWN: 11 Days to Wedding!

Hello Everyone!

I was hoping for another spontaneous day off but unfortunately I had to go back to work and put the rest of my wedding to do’s to the side.

11 Days & Counting! (Photo from www.adamsnews.wikispaces.com)

Tonight was a productive night though!  First we had a fun meeting with our photographers Scott and Cara Nava.  They had us over to their beautiful studio and we discussed the time line and places where pictures would be taken the day of the wedding.  They are such a great couple and Mike and I are honored to have them as our photographers!

After our meeting with them we headed back to the condo so we could have a conference call with our DJ company Okyne Media Lab.  The talk with him went great too!  We figured out what songs we want to play when and the timing of the evening.

Yay, two more things checked off the list!  We are so happy with our wedding professionals and know they will make our day/night memorable!

Thanks for reading!

TIP TUESDAY: The Wedding Dance

I was not your typical bride.  Preparing for my dances and choosing the entertainment were just as important as the venue.  In fact, one of my criteria for choosing a reception location was a LARGE dance floor!  I picked up ballroom and swing dancing after several years of watching my parents dance.  I fell in love with the beautiful and graceful movements of dancers.  Naturally, I always dreamed of dancing at my own wedding.  Of course, not everyone has the luxury of several years of dance lessons, but you can prepare for your dance as if you did!  Here are some tips to get you dancing in no time!

First Dance ~ Suzanne & Chris (Photo by Essence Photo & Video)

1.  Give yourself time.  Dance lessons should be scheduled into your wedding planning.  In order to feel confident for your first dance, you need to learn the basics of dancing with a partner.  While your dance need not be fancy, learning some basic steps will add interest to your dance.  Try not to wait until the last minute to take lessons, as things get hectic close to the wedding.

2.  Choose a song that has special meaning for the both of you.  Since you will be practicing to the song, it should be a song that you like.  The song should also have a consistent beat throughout and easy to hear.

3.  Most first dances are typically fox trot or waltz, which have choreography that will lend to a beautiful dance.  East Coast Swing or Jitterbug, are options for those that are looking for a less formal style of dance.  It gives you room for freestyle choreography and music choices.  BONUS TIP:  If you make a mistake, it is easy to recover!

4.  Practice, practice, practice!  Take the time to practice outside of your lessons, so that you get comfortable dancing in public.  As you approach your big day, you want to replicate the environment you will be dancing in.  This includes dancing in shoes and attire that simulate what you will be wearing, as well as the size and shape of the dance floor.  For the bride, it is very important that the dress length is not too long.  Make sure your train is bustled!

5.  Most importantly – just have fun and relax!  If you make a mistake, just keep going.  No one will know but you!

Go With TraveLin: Impromptu Pink Pearls + Pino + Pirates = Perfection

When we last left our Red Witch champagne pirates at the helm, we were ensconsed in dramatic fog somewhere between Milwaukee and Chicago on Lake Michigan. (Talk about hidden gems?!)  We made it back to our southside harbor in time to don our champagne pirate attire in the name of a cause.  We set out to Reverse the Curse!  The Cubs were battling the Pirates as well as their age old demons.

Sparrow (Photo by Angie Garbot)

We welcomed sports fans and social media aboard and kept our own lucky streak flowing.  Michigan’s foggy mood was lifted just in time for fireworks premiere.  We sailed into our pristine spot and toasted with our top two flagship cocktails, Sparrow Mojito and Red Witch Royale.  In our humble opinion, there’s nothing like fireworks from the water and you can’t beat our POV.  Many new friends and profile pics were made that night!  Fireworks are in full swing for the season Wednesdays and Saturdays through Labor Day.  Come out and chillax with Shenanigan, Hooligan and our seasoned Team Charming.  I come from a Land of Lakes and mosquitoes; I especially appreciate that Chicago’s controlled that problem so summer’s much better when you step outside.  It doesn’t even involve a net!

Pianissimo a/k/a Pino (Photo by Linda Decker)

Do I walk around Chi-town in pirate attire you ask?  Ahh, sometimes.  Other times I work from our “Empire Office” and then get whisked away to go yachting on our shiny new Beneteau, Pianissimo a/k/a Pino.  I had scheduled time to share travel stories with a friend when she saw that look on my face…”So you want to go sailing?!”  She was fully ready to accept my invitation to a sleek skyline sail and summer showed up.  That night was our first fog free adventure; we paired it with a playful French table red and unassuming pink pearls.  Not bad at all for a school night!  We’ll talk more on that gourmet soiree menu and Hawaii adventure next time!  In the meantime, here comes that look in my eye: “So when do we sail next?”  I’m your VIP pass so you can always ask for a TraveLin promo price. Word on the lake is that we whale watch on Fridays…
