TIP TUESDAY: Watch Your Luggage at TSA Checkpoints

Reported in Smart MeetingsTSA Agent Faces Theft Charge and worth sharing for happy couples going on their honeymoon or the everyday traveler.

A Transportation Security Administration agent at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York is accused of stealing cash from a customer.  Police say Alexandra Schmid, 31, took $5,000 from a Bangladeshi passenger’s jacket as it went through X-ray screening.  A surveillance video allegedly shows Schmid wrapping the money in a plastic glove and taking it to a bathroom.  Police continue to investigate what happened to the cash.  Schmid, who has worked for the agency for more than four years, has been suspended and charged with grand larceny.

TIP TUESDAY: Plus One

Short & sweet tip today: If you have to write “and guest” on the invitation to a friend or family member because either:

1)  That person does not have a significant other
or
2)  You have never even heard the supposed significant other’s name before (let alone met them)

do not invite them with a guest.  Easiest way to cut down your guest list.

TIP TUESDAY: Finding Motivation

February is that winter month that we despise the most, since it is sandwiched right between the end of the holidays and the possibility that spring is coming.  If you had a new year’s goal to get healthy, this is when you lose motivation.  But, is this the only time?  If you think about it, there will always be a reason why you did not make it to the gym or that yoga class.  I often have discussions with fellow trainers about what motivates their clients.  The unanimous answer was that we could only provide guidance for our clients, but ultimately they would need to put the words into actions.  It is natural for us to be motivated – especially when there is a specific reason.  Do these sound familiar to you?

TIP TUESDAY: Wedding Toasts

Thanks to our friend Darcy Miller, editorial director of “Martha Stewart Weddings”, for her article The Basics of Reception Toasts.  We so agree!

Determining the Order
The couple should decide on the order of the toasts well before the wedding and let each person know when he or she will speak.  It’s a good idea to write down the order and give it to the best man or the bandleader;  he can serve as toastmaster, ushering speakers to the microphone and discreetly signaling them if the toast goes on too long.  No one should feel forced to give a toast.  If the best man is very uncomfortable speaking before a large audience, the maid of honor or the bride’s father can step in for him.

TIP TUESDAY: Prioritize Your Health

Work meeting – check.  Project deadline – check.  Bill payment – check.  When it comes to scheduling our daily deadlines, we do it without much thought.  But, when it comes to taking care of ourselves, we usually do not make time for it or say that there is no time.  However, why would you not treat your overall well-being with the same urgency?  I am not talking about just scheduling that massage.  I am talking about scheduling time to exercise and prepare meals.  I bet if I looked at your calendar, I can find pockets of time that are free.  I can even tell by looking at my social media feeds.  One of my clients said that if she did not have her scheduled session with me, she probably would not workout.  In a nutshell, it all boils down to accountability.  So, how do you make yourself accountable?  Let me give you some tips to get you started.

TIP TUESDAY: Ultimate Rehearsal Dinner Checklist

Thanks to our friends Kim Forest of the Washingtonian for this amazing article to plan the ultimate rehearsal dinner.

The Expect:  Jamie Sears of Simply Chic Events ~ follow on twitter or facebook or blog
Her best rehearsal dinner advice:  “Make your rehearsal dinner the complete opposite of your wedding.  For example, if you’re having a formal wedding, keep the rehearsal dinner laid-back, casual and fun.  Why not plan a Mexican fiesta or a clams-and-crabs party?  Don’t use the same color scheme or theme as your wedding, either.  Do the opposite, so you’re not giving away all the surprises of the next day!  Don’t wait too long to start planning your rehearsal dinner.  Secure your location as far in advance as possible;  nine months to a year beforehand is ideal.”
