TIP TUESDAY: Plus One

Short & sweet tip today: If you have to write “and guest” on the invitation to a friend or family member because either:

1)  That person does not have a significant other
or
2)  You have never even heard the supposed significant other’s name before (let alone met them)

do not invite them with a guest.  Easiest way to cut down your guest list.

Time for installation #19 of Foodie Registry’s “LunchDate” blog feature, where they ask a distinguished panel of wedding experts from across the country the same wedding related question and serve up the answers for our readers in one delicious post.

You should have a wedding planner.  Really, you should.  The reason is because no one besides your planner tells you what sort of things you want to make sure you have done when during your wedding planning.

IN THEORY: How We Remember

I know that we usually write about all things pretty here.  Pretty dresses.  Pretty flowers.  Pretty parties.

But what I saw Sunday night has compelled me to write about something that’s not pretty at all.  Domestic abuse.

RIP Whitney Houston (Photo from AP)

Much of the talk surrounding the Grammy awards was about the surprising death of Whitney Houston, a woman whom I listened to as a teenager back in New Jersey.  I belted out her songs into my hairbrush, in the shower, and in the backseats of my friends’ cars as we zipped around without a care in the world.

We all wanted to be Whitney.  Or so we thought.

Love Story: Beth & Dan

My husband and I met on an old-fashioned blind date.  A REALLY blind date.  The person that set us up did not know my (now) husband personally.  He had heard him on the radio, thought he was smart and funny, and decided we’d be a good match.

OK, I guess some background is necessary here…

Dan is a sports broadcaster.  He currently has a sports radio talk show here in Chicago and is on the air Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  (Yes, it is easy for him to talk for five hours straight, every single day.  He has a lot to say.  About everything.)

Budget Bear: Letting Go of Wants, Focusing on the Needs

When this all started (before Pinterest existed), Mommy showed me (yes, I sat through all 267 slides) PowerPoint slideshows of her wedding.  My first thought was that she 1) must be crazy, 2) thinks everything is free and 3) has no idea how much things really cost!  After a few phone calls, I think Mommy quickly realized reality was about to set in and many of her want’s would be considered fantastic additions, but all the needs must be met first.  I spent many countless hours consoling my bridezilla before she made her list of must haves/can’t have a wedding without things (see our very first article).

CJ & Dr. Tim ~ Wedding Invitation Dilemma

Hey all!

198 days and counting….

WOW!  Less than 200 days to go!  It seems like so far away, but considering the month of January FLEW BY, we are assuming that this is the way it’s going to remain… each month passing by faster and faster.

Budget Bear: Tough Times = Tough Decisions

Wedding planning hasn’t been all rainbows and butterflies like I thought it would be.  Managing Mommy and Daddy’s wedding fund is more like a soap opera and the drama continues… EVERY DAY!  There is always a tough decision to make whether it is who to invite, determining wants vs. needs, and what price is our absolute max.  Sometimes I think I’m so stressed out my fur is falling out.

MONEY MONDAY: Eloping ~ Good or Bad

Eloping definition from Webster Dictionary:  “To run away secretly with the intention of getting married usually without parental consent“.

We are fairly certain that at some point during most couples’ wedding planning process, they turn to each other and say that they should have just eloped to skip all the drama and cost of a traditional wedding.  And the question is whether or not it is a good idea or a bad idea to elope.

To Elope or Not To Elope That is the Question (Photo from www.besthudsonvalleyweddingever.com)

Why would you elope? Continue reading “MONEY MONDAY: Eloping ~ Good or Bad” »
