Food at EPIC

We had previously been to EPIC but only for a cocktail party.  We decided it was time to go back and dine properly.  So, we went for lunch earlier this week.

It is a small thing but we really appreciate a great smile and acknowledgement of our presence at check in and we absolutely got that at EPIC.  We were graciously led up to the second floor (with our guy even asking if we preferred to take the elevator instead of the stairs, nice!).  We had a lovely corner table with a view of Hubbard Street.

My dining companion selected the soup of the day which was a carrot soup with a hint of cream.  Gorgeous in color and very tasty.  I selected the ahi tuna tartare which was prepared with chunks of avocado, a drizzle of lime and a hint of chile and served with crispy papadum.

For the entrée, I loved the crispy half chicken with cheddar corn grits, mustard greens and a bourbon sauce.  My friend tried the roast sea bass with asparagus with a green bean salad tossed in a fresh tasting tomato vinaigrette.  She assured me it was very Weight Watchers worthy!

For dessert, we decided to share the carrot cake because both of us LOVE it and since lunch was so delightful, this had to be amazing, right?  No.  So disappointing!  The carrot cake itself had an odd density and there was not enough icing.  It was topped with fried carrot shavings which we immediately pushed to the side after trying one.  The only (slightly) saving grace was the ginger ice cream but not enough for us to want to take a third bite.  Thankfully, our really awesome server saw our distain and offered to get us another dessert.  No thanks but we appreciated the offer (and when the check came, he had removed it) – again, thank you for the graciousness.

EPIC feels like three different event spaces in one and we know that you can rent out the entire place or a section for a rehearsal dinner or engagement party.  We will definitely go back to EPIC for another fabulous lunch or maybe cocktails on the rooftop with girlfriends!

Points for the Palmer House Hilton

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a Wedding Professionals Dinner at the Palmer House Hilton with some of Chicago’s premier wedding professionals! The gourmet creations, by Executive Chef Stephen Henry, were so delectable that we had to share the entire menu with you. But be careful not to drool on your keyboard!

If this isn’t enough reason to get on the horn and book your wedding at the Palmer House, you should see the recently renovated Penthouse (they try and give it to brides on their wedding night if it is available) and we are in love with Jane Himmel – Senior Catering Manager/wedding guru extraordinaire!
