Marrying at McDonald’s

A New York couple recently saved matrimonial money by holding their wedding reception at a local McDonald’s.  Corey Cutcheon and Doreen Brown joined approximately 50 friends and family members to feast on cheeseburgers, Fillet-o-Fish and Chicken McNuggets.  Desert was slices of Ronald McDonald chocolate cake and hot fudge sundaes.  The cost?  $250!

TIP TUESDAY: The Right Choice

When dining out at a chef driven restaurant, I have only one small piece of advice.  However, that maybe the tip that will change the way you dine drastically.  It is simple and requires zero effort.  Here it is:  let the chef select your menu.  Why?  Because he or she designed every detail of every dish.  They have poured themselves into every bite you will take.  And chances are what you will end up with is a perfect progression of dishes that will make your experience truly memorable.

Worlds’ Best Restaurants

The San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants came out in late April 2012.  The list is produced by British publication Restaurant Magazine.  For the second year in a row, the Danish restaurant Noma is in the number one spot.  Last year, Noma rose to number one after beating out elBulli, a Spanish restaurant that had held the title for four years in a row (which subsequently closed on July 30, 2011 and is reopening as a creativity center in 2014).

TRAVEL THURSDAY: One If By Land, Two If By Sea

My affinity for all things delectable brought me to San Francisco on a whirlwind dining tour.  Lady with infamous appetite, I should have signaled my imminent arrival.  Instead, I snuck into Frisco to romp around incognito.  I had an agenda.  I wanted to taste as much of what the City by the Bay had to offer as possible and I wanted to do it on my own terms.  That meant far away from tourists of Fisherman’s Wharf.

FOOD FRIDAY: In the Air

With warmer weather arriving in Chicago, spring is definitely in the air.  Go ahead, take a deep breath.  Smell that?  Spring in Chicago is announced by the aromas of BBQ.  Ours is the city that loves all things meat cooked over an open fire.  Block parties, cookouts, potlucks.  My neighbors break their grills out any chance they get.  The air on my block is always perfumed with delicious smoke.  I am no exception.  During warm months, I spend most of my time drinking rose and grilling in the backyard.

FOOD FRIDAY: Brooklyn Love Affair

My love for New York City is widely known and well documented (see my previous article FOOD FRIDAY: Bright Lights, Bigger City).  I feel right at home in Manhattan.  It’s true, I have flirted with other boroughs on occasion.  But it was always Manhattan that I considered my one true love.  It’s wonderful and sophisticated and polished and suave.  Manhattan is the Clark Gable of boroughs.  I was smitten.  That is until I was properly introduced to the flannel-wearin’, whiskey-slingin’, quirky, witty and utterly charming borough of Brooklyn.  I fell for it lock, stock and barrel.  Come with me, I will take you on a perfect date with Brooklyn.
