TIP TUESDAY: Wedding Cake Protocol

Who knew the wedding cake has its own etiquette guide?  Thanks to LifeTips for this article.

There is a protocol to the handling, cutting and serving of wedding cakes.  This is hardly surprising because just about everything in a traditional wedding is governed by etiquette and protocol.  Many couples, no matter how formal or informal the wedding is, most wedding couples try to observe wedding cake protocol.

TIP TUESDAY: Serving Your Wedding Cake

All cakes are NOT created equal!  And all cake plated presentations are definitely not equal!!!

We have all been at weddings when the final course is set before us and we swear that someone just slapped that piece of cake on the plate without any thought as to appearance.  And we “eat” with our eyes first!

Plated Wedding Cake (Photo from www.bridalbubbly.blogspot.com)

Make your wedding cake course as special as the champagne vinaigrette you so carefully selected for the salad course.

Ask if the wedding cake course can be made special.  It is as easy as adding a swirl of fruit coulis, a scoop of ice cream or sorbet, a dizzle of chocolate sauce, a little shower of powdered sugar or a few delicious berries.  It will make it look more like a dessert plate ~ inviting and original.

WED LIVE! Epic Bachelorette Party in the Making

It all started with Lunch Date question from Foodie Registry.  Each week, I answer the featured question and, this week, it was about bachelorette parties.  I am not a huge proponent of the concept.  I have yet to determine what is so fun about romping about town looking a fool and toting phallic objects.  But to each their own.  Having answered the question along those lines, I posted my comments on facebook, sparking a very interesting discussion:  What would MY bachelorette party be like?

Now, I have no plans to get married in the foreseeable future.  I would actually need to have a groom for that.  But my bachelorette party?  That appears to have been planned.

Our esteemed Editor-in-Chief Claudia Antony Zompa will be the mastermind behind it.  It will be planned by As You Wish – An Event Planning Company and will apparently include (but not be limited to) the following:
- Butchering demo by Mr. Rob Levitt of The Butcher and Larder where we will drink brews and let Rob show off his knife skills.
- Cheese tasting at Pastoral  accompanied by delicious wine and charcuterie.
- Truffle making class with the incomparable Ms. Katherine Duncan of Katherine Anne Confections to get us sugared up!
- Wine tasting hosted by the ever talented Mr. Shad Martin, Wine Director of Volo Restaurant and Winebar, where we will explore obscure wine varietals and snack on bacon wrapped dates and sweet pea flatbread.
- Cocktail making demo by Mr. Josh Pearson of Sepia Restaurant.  A little shake, a little mixology magic, a little Australian charm, a whole lotta fun!
- Spring roll making and family style Ssam dinner at Saigon Sisters Restaurant, so that everyone can chat and get to know each other and get our hands fragrant with fresh mint.
- Late night jazz session at the world famous Green Mill Cocktail Lounge with perfect martinis.
- Filipino breakfast at Uncle Mike’s, where one can only hope spicy spam and delicious lugao (chicken congee) will cure what ails us.

Any of these options would make a fun event for a group of like minded individuals.  Phallic objects not included.  So, where was I?  Oh, yeah!

WANTED:  1 (one) prospective groom (check out my ideal guy) and a whole bunch of prospective bachelorettes for the MOST EPIC PARTY EVER!  Serious inquiries only.  Submit your applications to Editor-in-Chief for additional screening.

Meanwhile, I may just test drive this bad boy.  You know, for practice.

Kim K Wants Over the Top Wedding Cake

No surprise here but Kim K wants an over the top wedding cake for her upcoming nuptials!  She and her soon-to-be second hubby visited Hansen’s Cakes to try different cake flavors and help in the design of the wedding cake.  Reported by HollywoodLife, the wedding cake will be a ten-tier white cake with chocolate-chip icing and black-and-white decorations.
