To have a receiving line at your wedding reception or to skip it? In all the weddings we do in a year, usually only two or three couples opt to have a receiving line and it is usually at the insistence of one set of parents or the other.
Colin Cowie says, “As for the receiving line, I definitely say skip it – all it does is hold up the flow of the event. I think it is much more personal and gracious to circulate and greet your guests during cocktails or dinner. You will always infuse joy and energy throughout the room with a personal visit and a heartfelt moment.”
We concur with Colin. The best way to make it through all the guests is to consider your reception as you would consider a networking event. Spend a minute or so with each guest and then move on! Do not let Aunt Jean pigeonhole in a corner for a ten minute conversation. Keep moving, shaking hands or giving hugs and kisses, power through and that will allow you to enjoy your dinner so much more!
