One of the most exciting and stressful parts of planning a wedding is picking your attendants. Of course, you want to include your closest friends and family but sometimes it can be hard to draw the line for who should be invited to be a bridesmaid/groomsmen.
In the 18th edition of Emily Post’s book “Manners for a New World,” she states that there are only a few rules when it comes to picking attendants:
- 1 usher per 50 guests
- junior bridesmaids are between the ages of 8 and 14
- flower girls/ring bearers are between the ages of 3 to 7
Other than that, it’s up to you! It is not necessary to have the same number of bridesmaids and groomsmen, nor is it required to only have one maid of honor/best man. If you have two close family members or two really great friends or a sibling and a really close friend, why not make them chief attendants. That way they can split the duties and the fun!
