TIP TUESDAY: Go Slow

With crisp temperatures arriving and chilly rainy days ahead, the time of light fare is over.  A salad just won’t do!  Comfort foods and long-simmered stews are making their way onto the restaurant menus and onto our dinner tables.  Hearty, soul warming dishes are just what the doctor ordered in this fall weather.

The task of making these long-cooking dishes may seem daunting, but it needn’t be.  Things become a snap when you use one piece of kitchen equipment that has probably been idle during the dog days of summer:  the slow cooker or crock pot.  That’s right, it isn’t just for Super Bowl Sunday chili anymore!  I use mine for everything from making homemade stocks to slow braising meats to making brownies.  It is one pot that is always a sure thing.  Bunch of ingredients go in, delicious meals come out.  Minimal effort, maximum flavor.

If you are looking to expand your slow cooker repertoire, try these easy recipes, tested by yours truly.  For a trip to sunny Mexico, try these Chicken Fajitas.

For a spin on Chinese take-out favorite, give this Beef & Broccoli recipe a whirl.

And finally, for delicious Brownies try this recipe.

Slow your food down a notch or two.  Hunker down for winter with the warmth of simmering crock pot!

  1. I love our slow cooker, it makes life a little easier on those days where we know it’s all going to be a little rushed just before dinner time. Thanks for the tips!
