To all of my amazing, beautiful, smart, intriguing, sexy, funny single ladies – one piece of advice…
LEARN TO EMBRACE SCOTCH!
Next time a few good men seem to be conspicuously missing around you, stop and ask yourself: Is there a scotch tasting going on somewhere? Because I promise you, if there is, more than a few of those good men are front and center for the whisky. I know what you are thinking. Scotch? No, thanks. Not for me. And believe me, I know exactly how you feel. I never in a million years would have thought I would drink scotch. Much less enjoy it. But I was wrong.
I have recently attended Raise the Macallan, one of the nationwide series of free scotch tastings sponsored by Macallan. Apparently, these happen every year around this time. Who knew? Of course, how would I, not being a scotch fan. But with just a few clicks, one can sign up for the mailing list and attend any of these tastings. So, I went. And ladies, hubba-hubba! Imagine: the Grand Hall at Chicago Union Station filled with attractive, well dressed, intelligent and funny men! Oh, and the scotch isn’t bad either.
I actually learned quite a bit during the tasting. Did you know they age some scotch in bourbon barrels? Did you know a large ice sphere is the best shape to use in fine whisky? Did you know that the smokiest scotch comes from Islay region of Scotland? I am not a fan of Islay Scotch.
As it turns out I like the whisky from Speyside region, where Macallan hails from. I tasted five different bottlings: 10, 12, 15, 17 and 18 year Macallan - the last being a clear winner in my book. Slightly spicy, with aromas of cinnamon and fresh nutmeg, smooth and round, 18 year was my favorite. I also enjoyed the 12 and the 17. Yes, I now can tell the difference. I was one of a rather small handful of women present at the event and quite possibly the only one paying attention to the education portion of the evening.
So, ladies, take it from me: go for the eye candy and stay for the scotch. Who knows, you may enjoy both much more than you think. Cheers! Or wait a second… Slàinte Mhath!

I finally read this, Tati…love it. Classy, foxy men with good taste in drink, hmm…if I hadn’t met my man on the Internet, I’d have gladly taken your advice!
