Imagine spending $20 million dollars. A mega mansion? A luxury yacht? Or perhaps a private plane? Nope! How about the wedding of the Sultan of Brunei’s daughter Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah!!!
The princess wed Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini, a civil servant, on Friday September 21, 2012, in Brunei, where in a week-long celebration estimated to involve 2,000 guests. Wedding planner Maya Kalman, founder of Swank Productions in New York City said, ”The rule of thumb for our average luxury wedding is $1,000 per guest. I would guesstimate that a no-holds-barred event like this could easily be $15 to $20 million.” And that figure include only wedding itself! Additional celebrations throughout the week could be an additional $15 to $20 million, Kalman speculates.
Just think of the transportation costs. Kalman says, “These people don’t get on the shuttle bus, think about it! It’s Mercedes cars. For 2,000 people, that’s 1,000 cars, and say only half of them need cars… at $200 a car, which seems low, that’s $100,000 in cars alone per event.” The planner also speculated that the Sultan might be sending private planes for important guests, which costs about $10,000 per person.
