Your mom really wants you to go very classic with your wedding invitations use calligraphy to address the envelopes. You would rather spend that money on the gifts for your bridesmaids. There is a difference in the price ~ computer printed envelopes cost approximately $1.00 and a good calligrapher is appoximately $3.00.
Calligraphy is an art and just such a fabulous tradition that has lasted the test of time but it’s not for everyone. A lot of couples really want the font on the envelopes to match exactly to the invitation and that is very difficult with some calligraphers. Especially with all of the next fonts coming out everyday!
I believe both ways are very good options and if it’s in the budget go for the pieces of artwork but if it’s not in the budget then the computer can be a fun touch in the same fonts and ink color as your invitation.
