This article is more of a question than a commentary or informational! I have been designing and creating escort/place cards for the last 13+ years and sometimes our clients, or more correctly - their planners or caterers, have asked for the meal choice to be indicated on the card. We have done so with little gems, letters, cute pictures and more.
Now on to my question, who are the escort/place cards for? I was under the impression that it was for the guest to guide them to the proper table and to remind them of what they ordered because it potentially could have been eight weeks prior that they made the choice.
But, I had a client a couple of days ago that said the waitstaff would be looking at the cards. I think it might be a little put off if the waiter leaned over me to grab my escort card, pick it up and read what the meal was that I had picked and then lean back over me to set it back down.
I am guessing it all depends on the venue, planner, catering manager, etc. I am just curious – for whom are the escort/place cards really useful and how are they being utilized.
I can’t wait to hear your comments – caterers, planners, and venue managers!
