TRAVEL THURSDAY: City of Light

Ahhhhhhhh….. j’adore Paris. Surely the most beautiful, the most romantic, the most enchanting city in the world! This is just a little pic I snapped one night, at le pique nique familial (family picnic) underneath La Tour Eiffel as the sun set.

Seriously. That’s Paris – so completely, overwhelmingly gorgeous every single shot you snap off looks like a souvenir postcard.

As a couple in the city of light, this decadent picnic is not to be missed. Hit a boulongerie, we love the delicious baguettes and sandwich at Paul or even a to go foodie shop like Fauchon, Monop or Cojean, where they have the most gorgeous foods wrapped and ready for your perfect park picnic.

We grab a few sandwich mixte – ham and cheese, soft and chewy on fresh baked baguettes with a slather of perfect Parisian butter for the kids, seasonal salads for tasting and sharing, hunks of fromage – cheese, sauccison – sausage, and tart citron, fruit and chocolate for dessert.

Make sure to bring your own bubbly or vin – wine (and an opener for pete’s sake if needed – we made that mistake once… and come to think of it, cups – yet another rookie mistake). If you underpack for cocktails, don’t worry, this is France! People are walking around Champ du Mars (the park around la Tour) selling wine/champagne, but it is barely drinkable.

First we eat. And drink. The sun begins to set and the skies turn to the famous Paris “l’heure bleue” – from a blush – to an aqua – to turquoise, then colbalt and, finally, deep midnight blue. As the blue sky changes before your eyes, “she”, La Tour, begins to shine a soft, golden, rosy glow. It is just breathtaking. And brilliant. And major fun for every age.

This is our Paris. Simple, easy, effortless, and oh, so very, very beautiful. Just as life should be.
